The Galaxy Note 8 is shaping up to be even better than the S8 Plus, though it will come at a cost
Big, beautiful and even better than the Galaxy S8+. We have high hopes for the upcoming Note 8 – which could be here as early as next month – but can it deliver? With a new dual-camera and Infinity display, we’re certainly hoping it can.
When is the Galaxy Note 8 release date?
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 UK release date: August/September 2017:
We were all but certain the Galaxy Note 8 would be unveiled in August, in common with the previous two Galaxy Note releases, but trusted leakster Evan Blass has just thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting it will be announced mid-September. We’d estimate that the phone would then go on sale early October.
It kind of makes sense, given that the Galaxy S8 also launched late in 2017 (mid-April), but it doesn’t go along with claims out of Korea that the phone will launch in the third or fourth week of August – or more specifically 26 August, as reported by Naver. Neither does it fit very well with the IFA tradeshow, which is held at the beginning of September.
This Galaxy Note 8 is not to be confused with the Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet from back in 2013.
How much will the Galaxy Note 8 cost in the UK?
According to respected tipster Evan Blass, writing for VentureBeat, the Galaxy Note 8 is going to cost a colossal €999. That’s €100 more than the Galaxy S8 Plus, and €200 more than the Galaxy S8.
In Sterling, expect to pay £869, with the Galaxy S8 costing £689 and the Galaxy S8 Plus £779.
What will the Note 8 look like?
There have been surprisingly few leaked images of the Galaxy Note 8, yet case makers have once again let the cat out the bag. Check out the image above for some Olixar designs, sold via MobileFun. From what we can tell it looks almost identical to the Galaxy S8+, with an 18.5:9 Infinity display and curved edges.
MobileFun has also confirmed the official Samsung cases for the Note 8, which are now available to pre-order from its site. It says they tell us probable colours for the upcoming phone include Orchid Grey, Deep Blue, Black, Silver and Gold. It also says the case RRPs are slightly more expensive than in previous years, suggesting that in common with the Galaxy S8 the Note 8 is likely to see a price hike over the Note 7.
Another leak from a case maker shows all sides of the Note 8, suggesting we will see a dedicated Bixby key, a 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C, an Infinity display, and a horizontal dual-camera setup with a fingerprint scanner by its side.
